Trainers make a difference

NV College is really pleased that Gurrja Anderson, one of our students who successfully completed her Care Ready Course, has been engaged as a Trainee Care support worker by Legacy in Coffs Harbour.

Gurrja’s career progression has had its challenges.

“I’ve started a Certificate III before, but the trainer did not understand me, as a person and what I needed to learn, and it didn’t work out as planned.”

Then she decided to try the Care Ready course at NV College and it proved the right match. With a trainer who identified her learning needs, Gurrja flourished.

“My trainer Jacqui, was very understanding and showed she cared more about the individual, rather than just trying to get the point of the lesson across.”

“Jacqui was honest about what the job role might be like and didn’t sugar coat it. The classes were interesting and the activities were fun. She gave each person in the class attention and helps them understand in their own way and learn at their pace.”

Legacy are very pleased with the quality of training Gurrja has received with NV College. This week NV College Trainer, Jacqui Boaden, and Business Development Officer, Amanda Davis, met with Amanda Christie, Director of Nursing, Legacy, and celebrated Gurrja’s successful traineeship.

Amanda Davis said, “Legacy has been a great supporter of NV College giving our students studying the Care Ready courses in Coffs Harbour access to their facility. This experience enables our students to gain real experiences in an aged care working environment.

Gurrja added, “I am really loving my new job and am excited for the future.”
