Short Hospitality Courses & Food Training

We offer a range of short hospitality courses and food training. All of our food and hospitality courses are nationally recognised and accredited and delivered by our registered training organisations (RTO).

SITXFSA001 Use hygienic practices for food safety

Our Safe Food Handling course is for anyone who works in a food business and handles food or handles things that are likely to be in contact with food for example plates and utensils.

A food handler may be involved in food preparation, production, cooking, display, packing, storage or service.

Unit of competency

This course covers all of the requirements for:

  • SITXFSA001 Use hygienic practices for food safety

This also equates to the SITSS00050 Food Handling Skill Set.

Outcomes

A Statement of Attainment for this unit of competency provides evidence that you have the skills and knowledge required under the national Food Standards Code Standard 3.2.2.

The Statement of Attainment is nationally recognised and may help you find work in a variety of industries such as hospitality and aged care. Your Statement of Attainment may also be recognised if you do further training in these areas.

This course is suitable for people who are training for the first time and for existing workers who want their 12 month ‘refresher’ training.

Duration

The course runs for one day, 0830 to 1630, at Macksville.

There is a take home assessment which must be submitted within one week of the course.

SITSS00051 Food Safety Supervision Skill Set

The SITSS00051 Food Safety Supervision Skill Set qualifies you to be employed as a Food Safety Supervisor.

All businesses that prepare and serve food in NSW are required to employ at least one Food Safety Supervisor. This includes cafes, restaurants, hotels, clubs, bakeries, take away shops, supermarket hot food sections, food stalls, B&Bs and similar businesses.

As a Food Safety Supervisor you will play a key role in preventing food related illnesses. You will have the skills and knowledge to:

  • identify and address food hazards at critical control points
  • monitor safe food handling practices
  • ensure staff have safe food handling
  • monitor recording systems
  • monitor staff to ensure food safety plan is followed.
Units of competency

This course covers all of the requirements for the SITSS00051 Food Safety Supervision Skill Set which comprises two units of competency:

  • SITXFSA001 Use hygienic practices for food safety
  • SITXFSA002 Participate in safe food handling practices.
Outcomes

Successful completion of the course and assessment gives you a NSW Food Safety Supervisor Certificate from the NSW Food Authority (included in fees).

You also achieve a Statement of Attainment which is nationally recognised and may help you find work in a variety of industries such as hospitality and aged care. Your Statement of Attainment may also be recognised if you do further training in these areas.

Barista

Our Barista course enables you to serve espresso coffee to professional standards using commercial equipment and good hygiene practices. You will learn how to advise customers on coffee beverages, select and grind coffee beans, prepare and serve espresso coffee beverages and to use, maintain and clean espresso machines and grinders.

Units of competency

The course covers two units of competency:

  • SITHFAB005 Prepare and serve espresso coffee
  • SITXFSA001 Use hygienic practices for food safety.
Outcomes

Our Barista training gives you the opportunity to practice your skills in a commercial café.

You will achieve a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment which helps demonstrate that you are qualified and ready to work as a barista.

Your Statement of Attainment may help you find work in a variety of roles in hotels, restaurants, cafes and other large employers such as aged care. Your Statement of Attainment may also be recognised if you do further training in these areas.

Duration

The course runs for one day and is held at Macksville.

Four hours of pre-class homework is required and there is a take home assessment which must be submitted within one week of the course.
