Aged Care Courses

Real skills, real work

Nambucca Vocational College helps students to grow their skills, develop workplace experience and increase their employment potential. Our programs are competency based so that students gain knowledge and skills and learn how to apply them in the workplace.

Nambucca Vocational College is an enterprise-based Registered Training Organisation, part of NVC Group Ltd. This means our programs are based on real jobs and current industry practices.

Our aged care courses combine classroom training, on the job learning and practical experience working with care recipients. Plus the opportunity to work with experienced aged care workers, real procedures and industry equipment.

We work with aged care employers on the Mid North Coast and North-Eastern NSW for our Aged Care Work Ready and Traineeship programs.

Aged Care Work Ready Program

Whether you are coming straight from school or returning to work after a break you might not feel confident about learning new skills and meeting new people.

With our Aged Care Work Ready program you can ease into learning and build your confidence while you find out what it’s like to work in aged care and get recognised skills.

This is a four week program which includes classroom learning and on the job experience. You get experience in a real workplace and find out what it’s like to work in aged care while you develop your skills.

Our industry focused aged care training covers how to provide personal support, workplace communication, infection control and safe work practices. And you can earn a Statement of Attainment in four nationally recognised units of competency:

  • CHCCOM005 Communicate and work in health or community services
  • CHCCCS011 Meet personal support needs
  • HLTINF001 Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures
  • HLTWHS002 Follow safe work practices for direct client care.
Learning and Assessment

This is a competency based program. You will learn what to do and how to do it in your classroom sessions. You will practice your skills under supervision in your work placement, working with care recipients. You will have a buddy to help you learn on the job.

To achieve the competency you will also be assessed.  For the assessments you will:

  • Answer written and verbal questions
  • Show how you perform certain tasks
  • Participate in classroom activities.

Your workplace supervisor may also provide a report as part of the assessment.
