‘It’s been a great journey, full of wonderful opportunities,’ said Mindy Fox, describing her experience with training at NV College in Macksville.

In early 2018, Mindy saw an ad for an information session at the college and decided to go along and learn a bit more.

At the time, Mindy was a single mum and her son was getting older, and she was looking to return to work. She decided the four week Care Ready course would be a good opportunity to see whether a career in Aged Care would suit her.

Since making the decision to start the course, Mindy’s career has gone from strength to strength. After completing the Work Ready course, which involved work experience in Autumn Lodge, she was offered a job at the aged care facility and discovered her passion for dementia residents.

In the following year she completed her Certificate III in Individual Support at the NV College, learning on the job whilst being paid and also earning her qualification.

‘I really loved the study side of the qualification and wanted to learn more.’

Mindy went on to get her Certificate IV at the college while continuing to work at Autumn Lodge. Prior to her courses at NV College Mindy had completed three years at university doing psychology but she didn’t feel the degree was hands on enough for her.

‘I love my current work,’ she enthuses. ‘The best thing about my job is I go home every day and know I’ve made a real difference in people’s lives. There’s the most incredible job satisfaction.’

Mindy’s currently undertaking her Teaching and Assessment training. She spends one day a month at the NV College learning how to be a trainer.

Later this year Mindy will be training students, just like she once was, about aged care. She knows, from firsthand experience, how daunting it is to return to work and start a new career.

‘NV College is incredibly supportive, they understand it is scary to start something new, but that it can also be exciting and rewarding. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend doing a course there. NV College and NVC Group have been incredibly supportive and great to work and study with.’
